Your counter on that page appears to increment for the same vistor/IP. This kind skews the unique visitor/counter hit since I ended up incrementing the counter by a factor of 5 by simply navigating through the links on the site.

This is hardly copyright infringement btw IMHO. Perhaps insulting to some, but certainly not a violation of any copyright. Perhaps a trademark violation if Google wanted to pursue it, but that is about it.

PS. Remember, there is no such thing as a stupid question. :)

Also, if someone was too stupid to Google for it first, and given "google.com" is a bit easiter to remember and type/spell than googleityoumoron.com it begs the question, why? seems like a waste of money. But alas, domains are cheap.

    Anyway, nice design.

Oh, please, Anthony. You are giving the kid exceedlingy bad advice here.

Have you forgotten George Harrison's battles over My Sweet Lord? And that wasn't even intentional... Have you forgotten that he LOST?!?

Go back and re-read what I said, AC -- the key term here is "theft of concept" -- if I paraphrase all the words to, I don't know, Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton and make the bad monster a different picture, like stegosaurus instead of T-rex, do you really think that wouldnb't be considered theft of concept?

Folks steal ideas everyday, Shawn had his programs copied by everyone under the sun (REV SHARE for forums), can he stop them?

Henry Ford may have stolen the concept for the motor car from Olds for all we know Minstrel, that did not stop him from entering the business.

All that I've found on the net leads me to beleive that "copyright only protects the actual expression of a concept, not the underlying concept itself. If you wish to try to protect the very concept of some idea then you may be able to do so with a patent." (from http://www.derkeiler.com/Mailing-Lists/securityfocus/Secure_Shell/2003-04/0166.html )

Googleing "theft of concept" (with quotes) only brings up 50 hits.. I would think if it is what you say it is, it would bring up more ;)

Well, its a long story, but there has been this one guy that was really bugging me for the past month or so on another forum, and the main reason I bought the domain was to show him off without getting banned from the forum ;) (stupid reason, I know)

I do need to get it so it won't count visitors from the same IP, Ill get to work on that now.

You mentioned Led Zeppelin as a hypothetical Josh... but wasn't Vanilla Ice sued for infringement on a song that sounded very similar to someone elses??? I cannot remember who's song it was...but his Ice Ice Baby...dun-da-da-dun-da-da-dun-dun-cha! I think all he added was the cha! I might be wrong...someone that knows more about Vanilla Ice correct me if I'm wrong...

I mentioned Led Zeppelin, Josh is way too young to remember them, but VI was a phony anyway and everyone knows that, so that is not a good example, hell yes everyone knows that guy was a fraud, but Josh has created this site as he mentioned, with original text and graphics.

Google could not care less about the name in a domain because there are millions of them out there now.

Anthony, you are being deliberately obtuse here and arguing for the sake of debate. Normally, that's fine with me but you are giving the kid very bad advice.

Josh, you can of course suit yourself. What I always tell people is do what you want but at least make surfe that you are making an informed decision. If, knowing you have stolen the concept from another person, you decide to risk having your assets or those of your family seized and/or losing professional credibility, then go ahead and do it. But please don't do it by deluding yourself -- it is indeed theft, no matter how many entries you find in Google.

I agree... Anthony comes here after several days, when the thread's discussion is almost over, and starts posting all that nonsense.

    How is it theft Minstrel?

Is it theft to start a webmaster forum because you liked being a member and decided you wanted to start your own forum?

    No it is not......

Well Fryman, maybe you can give me bad rep again like you did the other day for no reason

Is your web directory a stolen concept Fryman, how about your forum Minstrel?

Maybe I start a directory and a forum next week and you both claim that I stole them from you, who did you steal the concepts from, where does it end?

Anthony, I can enjoy a good debate when I'm in the mood. I think you need some sleep or another beer tonight, though. You're just being silly here. Next thing you know you'll be sticking your fingers in your ears and chanting, "Na na na na na... I can't hear you."

Tell me what "Law" Josh is guilty of breaking here and who is going to pay lawyers to file suit against him and for what?

Last night I seen a site that features photos of swimsuit models, if I put one up tomorrow are the guys that own swimsuit sites going to claim I stole their concept?

    Whatever, AC.

I said I enjoy a good debate, not this -- this has become nothing more that pointless verbiage aimed at having the last word. And I'm happy to depart this thread and give that pleasure to you.

It is not pointless, it is about what can and can not be done Minstrel, Josh is a developer and a programmer that will no doubt produce thousands of pages in the next few years and it is quite worth it to him and other forum members to hammer this thing out.

I am a phrophet...I detected the copyright violations from the start...

Cmon give me props for that...

But I think in Josh defense he learned his lesson and made many good changes. I no longer see any obvious violations at this point.
