I finally took AdSense off of one of my busier websites this week, because I watched the daily earnings drop fron $20 per day to $2. It was infiltrated by hordes of MFA .INFO sites. My competitive ad filter is full and I got tired of trying to stay ahead of it. My observation is this. Google is a bit sneaky. When I was on the site, the low paying banners NEVER showed. Google recognized me by my IP and showed the higher paying ads. The only way I saw the .INFO's was with the AdSense preview tool and by checking the site from other computers. This seems deceptive, to say the least. Has anyone else noticed this? Cheers
my filter is also full of mfa garbage and untargeted ads... it's even gotten to the point where untargeted ads from legit companies are being displaced in the filter by the mfa crap. be sure to set your ads up for text only, it has to be done at the account level and in every individual ad block as well. it's also important to tell adsense support turn off site-targeted ads for your account. try this site for help with identifying the mfa sites: http://www.labnol.org/google-adsense-sandbox/
Danimal, Thanks for the advice. I didn't realize you could turn off the site-targeted ads. That might help. I may wait a few weeks and AdSense back to the site. I wish Google gave us better tools for filtering the crap from the AdSense pool. The site I have servers up close to 100,000 page view per day. I wonder how these non-targeted MFA's even find out about about it? What would be ideal is if Google gave publishers the ability to specify a minimum $ threshold per click they will accept. Most of my clicks were paying .50 - 1.25 each. Then the flood of MFA .12 clicks overwhelmed the good ads. If you could set your publisher account to reject ads that payed less than x cents per click, this problem would be eliminated.
$0.12 clicks are pretty good, usually the MFAA crap only pays $0.01 or $0.02 I see those ads when I do my reviews so Google isn't being as sneaky with me.
Adpubster, I have a relatively high paying niche, so even the MFA sites pay better than average. The part that ticks me off is that there are plenty of high paying ads trying to advertise on my site. What makes Google display low paying ads when there are much higher paying ads waiting in the wings? It's almost as if there is some kind of collusion going on. I can't imagine what benefit this could be to Google, but my imagination is limited. Cheers
Jarodboy, Install the AdSense preview tool. I guarantee you will see ads lined up that never display natually for you on the pages. The minds at Google are much sharper than my own. I'm not sure I am even scratching the surface of their elaborate mechanisms for serving ads. They are ubiquitous and inscrutable. Cheers, Will
Hmmm, I thought Google always showed the highest paying ads first? No, I don't believe that, but there are some who swear that is true. Glad someone else has found that out (well, not glad you're getting crap ads, but glad that I wasn't imagining things)
what i have done is try to get rid of keywords that bring in off-topic ads, or mfa ads that don't pay well... certain keywords are riddled with garbage ads. don't know if that's applicable to this travel sector, but i what i do is use section targeting on certain pages: https://www.google.com/adsense/supp...3168&sourceid=ASO&subid=en_asblog&medium=link "So, you ask, how is Ad Rank determined? While bid price (the price advertisers are willing to pay for each click per thousand impressions) is obviously an important factor, we also calculate advertiser Quality Score to make sure the best performing ads will always appear on your site. Quality Score takes into account factors such as an ad's relevancy and click-through rate (CTR) (i.e. how likely users are to click on a given ad) because a higher CTR sometimes outweighs the benefits of a higher bid price. This ensures that your site always displays the ads representing the highest revenue potential for you." http://adsense.blogspot.com/2006/02/ad-rank-explained.html
i dont think that the problem is google. people are creating mfa web sites daily. this is the biggest problem of the adsense
