It will make SEO harder in certain situations. For example, say someone always googles to find tv shows to watch and usually end up on watchtvnow.com (I don't know if that exists). For that user and that user only, that domain will be given priority over other sites. So if you're creating a new TV site you're not going to be able to rank as high for the users who exhibit that sort of behavior. Then again, if it's your site that the people are usually ending up on, then you're happy because you're going to end up getting more traffic from those individuals.
This is going to effect anyone who uses Google. If you use Google at all you are going to eventually get personalized results.
I've hollered and screamed about Google on this forum for a long time, years even, and not one person ever backed me up. NOW DO YOU GET IT? They are going to do something awful one day and you will all remember how much you adored these creeps. When a company comes and takes a freaking PICTURE of the front of YOUR house and lists its address and everything for the world to see... Dude, I am telling you, that is scary sh*t. George Orwell had no idea, but he was damn close... And y'all just don't get it. Amazing.
You are preaching to wrong crowd mate, head to webmasterworld, there is serious thread going on there.
Maybe it's just the premise that Google can decide what they think is bet for us that has so many upset. Google assumptions of what we want for our search results is going to irritate many people. Many of us, including myself, don't want to be told what to do. I usually operate on the theory that if you tell me to do it (even if I wanted that in the first place) I am going to do the exact opposite. Google may just prevent that unless we want to go through some tedious actions before we search.
Google can do as they please, it's their search engine. Maybe if such privacy concerns became viral, searches might perhaps migrate towards Bing who are already gaining momentum as it is. Then SEO folk can focus on Bing.
Do you think Google will completely own us ? Also I don't think that personalized search would affect us, not many people will personalize it especially those who are desperate.
It's been discussed more than year ago, and Bruce Clay had a video in 'PubCon 2008' about the same subject. He had a very bold statement then: Ranking is DEAD !!!? What i mean tho, it's been expected for a while and Google was working on it all the time However take a look at the video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uhodb-Mx4bM
The the user does not have to personalize, google is going to do it for us. If your making junk sites you should probably quit wasting your time. Spammers are going to take a big hit from this as well.
Yes that is a good point. And Yes that is what it sounds like to me. How will new sites ever make it if they cannot be found? I am putting the breaks on my new sites for now, this truly stressful.
It's going to be EXTREMELY hard for new websites to be found. Basically unless you have a very large budget it doesn't look good. The more people that click on your URL through Google the better your rankings will be. Hopefully this will just be another factor in where your website ranks but who knows how big of a factor. What Does This Do? It makes people use Adwords and bid more to be on top so they get clicks. It puts more money in Gorg's pocket and drives small niche websites out of business.
Google and most internet sites already track individual IP's (that's how cookies are stored) so it' no different
There will be new service "click teams", they will use proxy's and charge to click on your site for "seo" purpose.
