yahoo gives away unlimited email space now.

But seriously $20 a year is good.

But look at the 250GB one.. $45 a month? Hmm..

Checking at 1and1.com for hosting, which gets me a custom domain name, host anything, including any type of "file"...

    http://order.1and1.com/xml/order/Hosting

    For 250GB.. $10 a month, $120... doesnt $500 seem a little expensive?

I came across the same situation,i am willing to go with a fast mail server rather than a big but slow mail server.

2.8 GB enough for me and don't use Picasa. But service's fees are a little expensive.

fair enough, but it was just an example.

You can buy a dedicated at $50 a month, which has 600GB of hdd, 1TB of bandwidth and its a server you can do whatever you want with... It was just to highlight the fact Googles Offer is far too expensive for what it is.
