Has anyone noticed that over the past few months that Google hasn't been updating it's index quite as often as it used to? This isn't just for my site but also a few other sites that I have been watching.
Are you talking about the number of indexed pages that Google tells us about? I am finding that Google is much faster at updating its index. A good link on a site that is spidered often (like DP) can affect the search rankings in a matter of hours.
No, I find the opposite. In fact google has dedicated itself to speeding up indexing - Matt Cutts called in "minty fresh indexing" http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/minty-fresh-indexing/
Yup. We are seeing our new pages indexed within hours... and when they do show in SERPs... they even have a time tag saying things like "2 hours ago..." showing how new the results are...
I think the problm is caused by those sites that you are observing. Maybe they're low quality or just having to few incoming links?
repitation in indexing and re-crawling depends on importance of your website/webpage that google gives to your web. more important more quick like DP. every post may indexed within hours.
How often a site is spidered, then indexed, and then added to the SERPs is totally related to how important G thinks that site is. The importance of a site is based on what G considers true "PR", and the age and type of site it is. A site that is never changing, over time should get less spidering, A site that is ever changing, should in theory, over time get more frequent spidering. New sites seem to suffer from infrequent spider visits until they have accumlated links, and age. All IMHO BWC
If you are talking about Indexing of pages by Google, than let me tell you my website new 8 pages got indexed in only 2 days.
This is strange, my site used to be indexed and have the new pages on Google really quick, now it is taking longer and thats why I wasn't sure if there was too many sites out there now that it was slowing Google down or what. I guess my site is losing quality or something. I get google spiders constantly, but my pages just aren't showing up in the index as quickly as before. Also, I've been viewing the Google cache and it has updated my homepage about 3 different times so far, but my new article URL doesn't even come up yet even when it's linked from the homepage. Could the problem be because I am constantly checking Google every day to see if the article is index?
Google indexing on my site is faster than ever by much. in many cases new pages - properly published via RSS feeds - appear in G index within hours. in one recent case i found the new page within less than an hr in G index. Of course you have to make sure G can FIND new pages. RSS feeds are an ideal way to do so - specially if RSS feeds are included via SSI on a few major high traffic sites easiy to find by G. IMO - G overall is better than ever (except adsense $
Google's results have become pretty crappy - that, I have noticed! Anyway, I think you are right in that they are not updated as often as they used to be.
Yea I actually noticed that on popular sites like Squidoo, the pages were updating really quickly. Probably just your sites that are slow
I have also noticed that in the past few months there are no real movements in the SERPs, despite all the link-building efforts - again, not only my experience! This problem has nothing to do with indexing.
I think big G has a lot of fun with us in terms of changes but I haven't noticed anything specific with site indexing speeds. Page fluctuations and total # indexed seems to be all over the place from what is written lately but whether that's a function of indexing time?
I've noticed the big G has been updating wicked fast lately... Maybe not for Serp ranking but they index very quickly
Sorry to say you, Google is now better in providing rankings as well as very fast in indexing pages too.
I was searching around my site and noticed a few odd things: Do you think not having a "index, follow" robot tag could slow things down. Also, do you think a sitemap error could slow things down as well?
