google is going crazy again

my pages indexed via a google searched climbed by over 10,000 today, yet per the API, it dropped from 5300, to 111 or 0 depending on which time I check in the DP tracker.

Not just me either, there is some talk staring up about it in the coop forum.

Not even looking at the Data Centers I have noticed the main Google results bouncing all over the place I have gained back keywords that i thought were gone. I have also lost a few that were doing fairly well.. Very strange but interesting to see what the outcome will be.

I've had somewhat interesting results from this craziness. My site was at a mere 80 indexed with about 60 of those showing titles. This morning when I looked it was down to like 20 indexed and 3 were just titles. Then it jumped up to like 200 and I started getting crazy visitors for a couple hours, like triple what I was getting before.

This might be affecting me this way because my site is new and had only been deep crawled once before.

Gbot had deep crawled a few days earlier. I'm really excited, even though it has gone back to the state it was this morning. Now googlebot continues to hammer my site. I hope it comes back even stronger than it was for that brief window.

I suppose this is how googlebot can behave a lot of times? The deep crawled pages take a while to appear in the index and there's an "update" of this type where things get a little wacky?

I've got the same issue, went to PR4 on the last update, PR5 a week ago and back to PR 4 today, along with a drop from 32K to 13K indexed and 0 indexed at a certain point today per dp API results.

For the first time in months google gives a pagecount for my sites that is close to the number of pages i know that exist, it used to be 5 times the real amount ... it all started after yahoo claiming to have the biggest index ...
but there don't seem to be a change in the number off people that are referred by google to my sites

Yeah - i've seen a huge clean out, which can be good for keyword weight.

I have had the same, 22K indexed last night, 600 today, but 600 quality pages.

I use google site maps, anyone above also use them?

I use sitemaps. Since this is my first domain I don't know if it's really helping at all. None of my commercial pages are ranking, though they're indexed.

I'm glad to see that this morning, again, I'm doing well on a lot of areas. I hope this isn't over. As I expected from the hits I got yesterday from gbot the # indexed was higher this time around. I hope it nabs the rest of those pages without title/descriptions for me on the next pass.

I was stuck with google showing 500-800 pages for my site. I finally made a sitemap, and after updating and sending it every day for 2-3 weeks, I have now jumped up to 17,300 pages indexed.

Per the API I had under 500 pages, and it seems I am holding steady today with 10,400.

I cant think of any reason for this increase to have finally happened other than submitting sitemaps.

Sitemaps will get pages indexed. This is clear. But I personally recommend not using sitemaps (if you can, depends on the site) because it is extremely valuable to see which of your sites G organically indexes.

Seeing which sites G organically indexes gives you feedback on initial linking structure and PR passing.

Kind of like letting googlebot into your home and letting it look and around to tell you which rooms are enjoyable.

This helps you set up future rooms that Googlebot (and real visitors) will hang out in.

I dont know, I would think that getting more pages indexed, and ultimately getting higher rankings would help to get me better internal PR and sites with higher PR wanting to exchange links to my site. All that may eventually create higher PR for me, which from what I have heard, gets you deeper, more consistant crawls from GB.

That's the angle I am working on anyway.

Does any one here that has been using the DP back link tool notice that for the last 2 days that has been alot of fluctuation? I have noticed it to be fairly signifigant for 3-4 days.
