Google is gaga over .gov & .edu

It is known that Google trusts .gov and .edu sites because they theoretically aren't commercially corrupt (like Rod blagojevich), so links from those sites are deemed unbiased and therefor authoritative. But lately, I've been getting a lot of poorly related .gov and .edu sites in search results. Does Google also give these sites better rankings just because of the domain type? Or is it because .gov & .edu sites tend to attract links from other .gov & .edu sites?

Matt Cutts already said that they are judged the same as all other domains.

I don't think they've considered this though... Also, might have been why the Google Bomb was so easy... whitehouse.gov...

Do you still believe on Matt Cutts?? His own statements make conflict with his previous statements whether in case of duplicate contents or geographic targeting..:)

Matt Cutts has become the PR guy - Public Relations, not Page Rank. His new department is to blow smoke up webmaster's as$es.

    @ Maximizationator

You seem quite bitter about everything related to Google? Any specific reasons ;)

I have never seen any preference given to .gov or .edu websites ....
