What I find funny is , why on earth if PR is so important and people should not sell links based on it, did G! tell us what the PR of a page is in the first place?

Apart from the cries of G! Toolbar PR is a load of rubbish , so anyone buying links based on a worthless piece of junk is a fool.

The only reason some can say 'buy a link off me because I have PR9' , is because sodding Google told us and the site owner they have PR9 in the first place.

If they didn't supply this (all be it useless) piece of information, people wouldn't be able to sell links based on it.

Oh the irony tickles me pink :)

When Google applies manual penalties, which is as infrequently as possible since they prefer algorithmic solutions, they don't attempt to get everyone - just the most blatant or highest profile offenders. Remember Search King? They weren't the only one selling PR at the time.

There are plenty of facts available and plenty of information about what was penalized and why. All you have to do is search for it and actually want the information, as opposed to covering your eyes and ears and saying, "Na na na... I can't hear you".

Start here, as just one suggestion: How to Handle a Google Penalty - And, an Example from the Field of Real Estate, which starts out:

PR is not totally worthless, google uses it as one of the factors in its complex algorithm to determine the position of each website on specific queries ... but it also uses another multitude of other factors ... so the net effect it has is probably minute ...

Google must be really incompetent with hand-editing then. They still haven't punished Business.com, which ranks #1 for the keyword "business" despite the fact that they sell links w/out adding no follows to them. And what about Yahoo directory. Why does this site still rank #1 for the keyword "Yahoo directory"? Is it because of the "paying them for a review" technicality. There seems to be a pattern concerning the sites they penalize. They let John Chow get away with his blatant measures for over a year; then he stopped using adsense on his site, and suddenly they decided to punish him.

Do you think Google is just too incompetent to notice sites like Yahoo directory or business.com? Or are they just randomly deciding to play nice (and thereby look unfair). Your argument is that Google isn't even attempting to "get everyone." You just said that. Why should it matter if you're blatantly violating the rule, or subtly violating the rule. A rule violation is a rule violation, right? I guess not, according to google. Not if you look at the sites who haven't been penalized. Google will never penalize their major business partners, or sites like Yahoo directory because that would make them look bad. The whole thing is motivated by money.

you're getting 'REAL' PR and google Toolbar PR mixed up!

Real PR is between Zero & One , NOT Zero & Ten , anyone offering anything based on G! Toolbar PR, is basing things on a gimick, which G! states themselves. G! Toolbar PR is just for fun!

I dont agree the PageRank in the toolbar is "just for fun". Its usefull to get an 'overview' of a website however it was sometime ago. Sure, its a tool that is used to sell text links, but any tool that somebody can use to their advantage will be used :)

I am not getting anything mixed up REALLY, they are both PRs one is just the rounded representation of the other and it does indeed reflect the strenght of the other ... that is how I see it ... you can't say that only one is important but the other is bull ...
