Holy crap Google is making me crazy.

I launched a new site in a new niche a few days ago. Within 24 hours I am #3 for my keywords with 46 pages in the index. Very nice.

It stays that way for a couple of days and I see some great traffic.
Then without warning, I have 1 page in the index and I'm listed on page 5 for my keywords. Number one listing in my niche is a blog post from 2006 which happens to have the phrase in it. Really relevant don't you think?

then yesterday my site came back. Spots 9 and 10 for most of my keywords and having 9 pages in the index.

Today I have 9 pages still indexed but the site does not show in the top 200+ listings for keywords that it was #9 for less than 12 hours ago.

    WTF?

I know this is a new site about 5 days old, but come on. The big G is really yanking my chain here. Is this normal?

Oh I should note that my site has do follow backlinks in the google cache on that pages that are listed as #3 and #5 spots. These sites have nothing in the niche other than a link to my site containing my keywords. And they rank #3 and the site to which they point ranks < 200 ?

    Weak...

looks like a short lived initial boost that new sites get. It can take a few more weeks to go back to normal.

This is a good reminder as any to publish high performing pages from the get go while the fresh boost lasts - if Google tracks alot of surfers back-pedaling and so forth, its not a good thing, though Google will never admit to using surfer behavior to adjust ranking, they have it on the back of their minds at least (otherwise they wouldn't be using java-cloaked URLs in the SERPs).

It's also possible what you are seeing is fluctuations associated with changes in Google. Shopping for an item Monday online 4 out of 5 times one of the sites was #4 on the list that I planned on ordering from. Yesterday it was gone - I scanned through 100 listings and it wasn't there. Today I check again and it's back at 5, just checked again and it's gone. I think there might be some tinkering still going.

well this proves why no one really claims to know SEO,they just provide apparently proven methods which are meant to work, i just think you have good content and have titles which are probable search terms u shud get results..
