Google is confusing me...

Discussion in 'Google' started by atforums.digitalpoint, Nov 9, 2010.

My site has over a hundred articles optimized for the keywords 'anger management', and I have over one hundred backlinks, and my domain name has the keywords 'anger management' in it. Yet still, there are junk sites with no content, no backlinks, and no keywords in the domain name, that are still ahead of me in the search ranks for the keywords.

What gives here? I am working hard, creating valuable content, connecting myself around the net, and then I see these junk sites ahead of me?? I thought google was supposed to make it 'real'?

Well maybe some hundred of backlinks are not enough. Build more.

Clearly I'm going to add more backlinks, but that doesn't help at all with my question, which is about why the sites with no backlinks and no content are ahead of me.

Can you link to me your site and the competitors so i can do a research? But i must say i got the same problem for one and a half year, and i still dont got no clue about why some sites are ranked better.

Sounds like it comes down to the age of the domain?

They could have also used some "Ninja Black Hat" techniques back in the day to secure those spots.

Send me a PM with your website, keywords and I will look into it for you.

You just don't worry about the other sites ahead of you, we cannot understand why google is doing so. You just improve your site by adding more backlinks and continue adding good informative content with keywords and you will see the difference in future. :)

Domain age matters, 10 year old domain with few quality backlinks will higher than 2-3 year old site with 100s of backlinks.

I can understand your frustration but there are many factors that may put certain sites ahead of you.

    1. Google's algo is about onsite as well as offsite SEO. Make sure all your onsite SEO stuff is on par with your competitors.

    2. Link quality. You could have 100 pr0 backlinks and your competitor could have 5 pr7 links that would weigh more than 100 pr0 links

    3. Domain -- One my competitors had my keyword in their domain and out ranked me for years. I finally passed them but it took me almost two years of work to do so

    4. Site Age - The same competitor who had my keyword in their domain also was older than my site. Again, it took me two years to pass them.

Hang in there and don't give up

Thanks everyone for all your help. This helps me a great deal, and now I understand much more clearly what is behind search engine ranking, backlinks, and all. It looks like i've got my work cut out for me, which is fine and no problem; I'm in it for the long run and I never look down.
