it is never going to compete with windows or osx, the experience microsoft and apple gained the past 25 years will always be noticeable

Its good to see Google entering the business. I hope they don't give away the OS for free, coz it would stifle competition. Sell it and make some money. And let the competition survive.

The OS are easy work for google with so many top engineers .
The problem is the application support and enterprise level products within the Chrome OS .
But I am optimistic to see the OS in 2010 .

I think Google would be able to create at least some buzz but it will really depend on how good the Chrome OS would be. Google has a long way to go in order to takover a big OS market share. Google to launch Chrome OS in 2010

Google is very innoative, if anybody can compete with MS, it is them. They have strong money muscles too.

Windows has it dominated for one and one reason only, Windows owns the .exe executable.

The day Google licenses the .exe is the day Microsoft ends.

I didn't know MS owns the rights to .exe format. We have wine emulator in Linux that can pretty much run any windows application, and they don't have any license or anything with Microsoft.

The only reason we do not see Linux or OSX supporting .exe files is coz there OSes have different architecture and hence the compiled code has to be different.

It is almost certain that Google Chrome OS would be based on Linux, stripped to the bone to only allow a few Web-based applications, Wifi, bluetooth, USB and a browser.

Chrome OS is essentially a thin client OS build around a web browser.

They already said it will be free. Giving it away will not stifle competition. Word survives though there are many free editors. Besides, Microsoft is a convicted monopolist so they have no say in this.
