Google invades Privacy

This is some thing i wanted to ask and discuss with the learned members out here.
I am amazed at how google has complete disregard for a person's privacy.
Google collects all data it can as well as it also reads our emails[i'm talking about Gmail]

    Is it appropriate?

Gmail is a very good email service but if one carefully observes while in inbox we see ads which are related to the content of our mail. This clearly shows that google is reading the content of our mail.

I know that it might be just google's algorithms doing it all automatically but is it possible that some human might have access to it as well?

Shouldn't Google as a company have some restrictions?
Specially where public privacy is concerned?

After all we always oppose when some thing like this is done by the government but then why allow google?

when you say Google, you mean employees, or google functionality.
The ads shown in Gmail are contextual ads and server automatically based on content.
You can say same about antiviruses, which also parsing emails looking for suspicious content.
I assume all that is part of user agreement, which most people not reading. Try to read GMail user agreement and I'm sure your issue is covered there.

not really, anti virus programs do not use your mail content to promote third party stuff and of cource you can stop it from sending any info to its home server as there are ways to it. however you can do nothing to stop google other than stop using it... :)

Well the truth is the moment you're telling your name to another person you expose yourself to privacy invasion . Google will take all measures necessary to be able to protect itself from any threats . also they will try to squeeze out every bit of profit they can . Information sells well and Google has it in ample supply .

Over the 14 years I've been using the net I've went to great lengths to protect my privacy . In 14 years of INTERNET usage I've gave my real information to only three websites . And I've asked that one of them removes my personal data .

Kindly tell me which other programs use your mail content to sell you third party goods and/or services?
