Google Introduces New AdWords Refinement

Discussion in 'Google AdWords' started by iShopHQ, Apr 5, 2005.

"GOOGLE MONDAY ANNOUNCED THAT IT will now make available to AdWords users a program that allows advertisers to compare the conversion rates of ads in different channels, including Google's search rival, Overture. The refinement is aimed at advertisers who run ads in multiple areas aside from AdWords, and is designed to monitor both pay-per-click and non-pay-per-click ads. This move in tracking comes only one week after Google announced its intention to buy Web analytics firm Urchin. Speculation around search- watching sites and forums was that Google may offer the analytics services to its customers for a very low price, possibly crowding out search marketing companies that serve medium and small businesses. --Shankar Gupta"

Anyone got any more info on this?

I saw it in my accounts a few days ago. I looked at it but didn't see the benefits over using Overture's data. And all it does is telling G what you make with whom.

That stuff crosses my line of what I'm willing to let them know. They're already too deep in our lives, no point in getting more involved than necessary IMO.

I agree with them being too much in my business, but the part that caught my eye:

"...Google may offer the analytics services to its customers for a very low price, possibly crowding out search marketing companies that serve medium and small businesses."

I'm about 60% complete with a tracking program I intend to offer as a self-serve solution to people who want to track their PPC efforts down to the keyword level, including recording sales info and calculating the Return on Advertising Spend and the Cost per Conversion. Last thing I want is to try to compete in an area where Google has an offering.... :(

I haven't decided what the beneift of doing this through the google system is. Why give them my Overture data. Afraid I will have an account rep calling trying to get me to spend more with them.

There is a benefit in that you will have a central place to consolidate all your stats run all your reports. If your a small business, and by small I man maybe $100 a day or less in advertising spend, this is a pretty good do-it-yourself solution.

Sure, Google will have more info on you, but they already know your shoe-size anyway and every term that has ever been searched from from your IP and, if you have the toolbar, every page your computer has ever surfed to, so what the heck? Might as well let them know how much your spending on Overture too!
