I am confused, last week Google had indexed 23,000 web pages of my site, then this went up for 4 days to 29,000 pages, now its down to 22,000 pages. Does anyone know why this would happen? do they just delete these pages from there index or just not show them, it dosn't make sense.

    Hi adamk1,

Indexing and de-indexing in Google is quite common. Like what soniqhost has said, it could be a periodical update. Do not worry too much :)

I agree: it's about the google index updating. Anyhow, the number they say, isn't very closely related to the number of pages they have actually indexed. Did you check the last page of the so called 'indexed pages'? Did it go up to 23000?

The amount of indexing can change depending on what mood Google is in.

    I had 60k pages indexed, then 120k, then 230k, then 100k and now I'm at 188k.
Those variations seems to be normal when tlking about Google.

There are many changes to the algo every now and then.. changes are more frequent to the newer sites. Just make sure you follow their guidelines at the end of the day and you will be fine :)
