I read on someones blog (I think a DP users one) that Google is now indexing sites in less than 24 hours now, that's obviously good yeah?

Social bookmarking (like Digg) can get you indexed very quickly anymore.

If you post daily on your blog or site and have some decent inbound links you will get indexed several times a day...

I got a new site with 0 links - not even submitted to Digg or anything like that, just submitted a sitemap to Google and the crawl began 10 minutes later, within 10 further minutes 76 pages were indexed, 46 cached. I thought that was pretty impressive:)

When I first started I was told it could take a few months but my site got indexed in about a day. Seems it's gone down even further now, I think blogs and Google wanting the most up to date index were the keys to the changes, not necessarily the technology.

I wish it were consistently so. I submit a new sitemap.xml whenever I add a new inner page. Indexing of that new page averages a week or so later. It's not a new site: home page PR is 5, many inner pages are PR3 and 4. Traffic is good. I link to every new page from my PR5 home page until the new page is indexed. It still takes, on average, a week or so. :(

Social bookmarking and pinging works great for a quick crawl, you often see the bot in your logs about 30 seconds after a pingomatic ping for example....doesn't matter if it's a blog or not.

It depends on the popularity of your site... the more sites link to you the more frequent spiders are visiting your websites!

Ya, their crawler is pretty fast. You can get indexed in under 4 hours if you're lucky.
