I just noticed the other day that Google has indexed a site of mine that is under development. I have never linked to this site, and Yahoo, MSN, and Google Webmaster Central all show no backlinks to the site. Furthermore, my server logs show no traffic from links from other sites. However, Google has indexed my site: http://www.google.com/search?q=site:topcoralcalcium.com&hl=en&filter=0 As you can see, they've even indexed several pages that don't exist: www. topcoralcalcium.com/?S=A topcoralcalcium.com/?M=D Plus, they've indexed the www and non-www versions of the site. Any ideas?
put a robots.txt on site root with until your site is done. After that you can remove that file or remove Disallow:/ from there. Also you should stick with www or a non-www, and redirect one to another, otherwise you can end up with a lot of pages in G supps.
Well, yeh, I know. I'm not complaining. What I'm trying to figure out is how did Google find my site. If there are actually no backlinks (like it appears) and I have not submitted it anywhere, there's only one possibility I can think of: Google queries the whois database for new domains and found and spidered my site that way....
