I recently had a new websitebuilt for me and forgot to upload robot.txt file which I did a few days ago but found my site has already been listed. Will this hurt my site for future rankings or am I ok? I also forgot to add the meta tags which I will be doing and it has already been indexed but not ranking yet obviously....

can anyone shed some light on this, thanks.

Google will reevaluate your website every time it comes back. Effective SEO takes a long, long time, so one visit by the googlebots will not matter much in the long run. Just fix these issues as soon as you can.

There is nothing to worry about. Just keep in mind that BEFORE you launch your site, FINALIZE everything from the beginning for a safe deploying of your site. Though broken links are not that much of a trouble but might be if they are on your site/pages for a long time.

Google saves your history and identifies everything like "what your site IS" and "what what your site WAS". So try not to trick or play with search engines, specially Google. And there's one thing my SEO Team Lead always said to me that "always complete your homework" i.e. do your thing and leave Google what it does.

    Good luck,

Thanks guys, feel a bit better now. This is my first site so I don't have a lot of experience. I've fixed everything now and removed the robot.txt file.
