Well, since there is a difference in opinion, why not use it and then tell us later whether or not it was a good decision or not.
the term is trademarked so you can't, unfortunately. If you do use it, a cease and desist order is sure to follow... you can check this out http://www.google.com/permissions/guidelines.html as well.
it depends on the people who own the trademark. some people won't allow others to use their terms. some people do not care about it. some people won't care unless you compete them. some people will wait till your site grows a lot and gains huge traffic so that they can pull your domain saying they own the trademark for the term.
I would be really careful on this, Trademark law is very very arbitrary both in the UK and The US. There is no consistency and a lot of disputes do go to court. The most worrying and most recent trademark case to date Sky v Skype See >>> http://www.theregister.co.uk/2010/08/11/skype_sky_trademark/ I personally wouldn't do it, because chances are the trademark owner would wait for your site to go live, wait for the traffic and pull it.
I had such domain, it was pr0 most of the time and at the end ot was n/a So I think it is not so good idea.
I also had a trademark infringement the make my PR go from 0 to N/A http://www.adwords-vouchers-shop.com, but it is still online for some weeks, and also in the first page on google. So the only thing is that my pr had dropped from PR0 to N/a, but my site is still in the cache, i have not received any warnings from google and everything it is ok. So in my opinion you can use the word google in your site. It would be an exception: If you live in U.S.A or Canada i heard that rules are very harsh. I am from Europe so i am not really afraid. In my country in the worst case you can get a fee of 250$.
yes, you can. it's just a freedom of speech. BUT, do not place any advertising on, otherwise it's become a commercial website
I have had a site up for about 4.5 years Named Googlesitehelp.com and it has brought me no trouble. I had it pointed at a blog that got caught up in the mistaken splog (blogger) robot deleting frenzy a few months ago - now I have it as a website and its all good. I lost the pr rank for 4 or 5 days behind the blogger issue but it is now back to PR2 and doing well on google on a 5 day old website. I don't know if I got a grandfather clause deal or ? But I don't think they care unless you step on their toes.
Better to try it, then tell everyone here if it will valid and good. But for me better to make other domain name.
I think you can, I can't find any problem in using it as long as its available and you didn't copy the whole domain of Google just use it and you just want to share your experience in Google.
