I have found that Google image is actually bringing me more traffic than their SERP. I blog and do use image on almost all of my post, so I'm not surprise but... Is the image traffic worth anything And are they actually visiting my blog when viewing those images? So if you blog...consider using good image tags because it is bringing me lots of traffic (more than 4000 unique last month for image alone).
In my experience most of these visitors just want to see the image and don't explore the rest of the site. Another big problem is that some people started hotlinking my images, stealing my bandwidth to show the images on other sites. I even had to take some images off my site to keep the problem from getting out of control.
You can set DISALLOW on robots.txt if you dont want SE crawl your images. Traffic from wherever opens the opportunity to introduce your site to new people. Unless you have bandwidth problem its welcome.
Yaa your right saying Google Image had more traffic than Google SERP. But i dont think this type of traffic provide you any type of worth.. Because it show only ur image and mostly visitor dont like to browser whole site.. Dilpreet
its not bad to have such traffic on your said images. its true that images weighs more than in SERP, but I think they only care about the image alone. they don't really care where it came from. maybe if the visitor is eager to know all that, then maybe there is a possibility your site might get visited. driving such traffic on images is not bad but its not worth it. organic searches is much better.
I have to echo what others have said - I get quite a bit of traffic from google images, and it' s free, not at such a big volume that it's causing a problem, so I'll have it. But - it's rare that I see any sign that such visitors have looked at anything on the site, let alone 'converted'. (slightly off-topic, but I feel the same way about stumbleupon traffic - it's not doing me any harm, so I live in hope that eventually I'll see it doing some good.) (oh- and surely it IS an organic search - you're not paying for it.)
i have been donig this also. there was a post a few months back which spoke about how google images increase traffic. i just hotlink to the image in google image search. That way if people hot link my images they are hotlinking to google not me.
