    Why is google ignoring meta-descriptions?

As you clearly see on my site download youtube, if you using firefox check the page info the description is:

    "Download youtube video in seconds"

    But here is Googles description

What is the cuase of that? I've had bad luck actually getting google to use any descriptions I put on all my sites. Its quite frustrating.

Try removing the trailing / in your <link rel="stylesheet"> tag. Google seems to be sensitive to parsing the <head> section of webpages based on the <!DOCTYPE> statement and your <link> tag is improperly formatted for the HTML doctype you've declared.

Many people who have been using the website verification <meta> tag generated by Google for the Webmaster Tools program have run into this because the tag Google generates is in XHTML format with the trailing slash and they've declared an HTML <!DOCTYPE>. Repairing the tag seems to help Google to parse the <head> section properly.

Google may use your META description, the DMOZ description or they may extropolate text from the page.

    2 quick ideas...

    1) Did you add this meta-description recently or has it been on the page a long time.

    2) Make it longer. I have no facts to support this, it is only a theory, but I wonder if Google likes some substantial text for the description and in your case the text is too short.

According to this Meta Tag Analyzer, "Description relevancy to page content is poor. The Description relevancy to page content is 40%." I doubt that is important, but worth noting anyway...

this is what usually happens to me....they rarely use the meta desription...most of the time they pull the title of the latest post on my blog...
