I use the free service but have the invisible counter (I'm guessing most of use invisible) so just wondering if an invisible link to StatCounter would hurt my PR? Invisible text is a definite no-no -- what about an invisible link for a counter???
I agree. If this website is known for selling links, google dropped its PR. That doesn't affect their position in SERP but power of their votes cast on other sites, known as linking.
statcounter is very different fron Google Analytics any may way ways I prefer Analytics and so do many others out their" maybe thats why"
Statcounter used to be a PR10. It fell to PR9 on April 2007, and Google pushed it down further to PR6. Looks like Google is downgrading links coming from sites using StatCounter, as well as "hidden links" shown by invisible counters.
they were penalized BECAUSE they were SELLING links in their sidebar, it was like 1000$ per month as i remember, and NOT because of the links coming from websites having the counter installed on them. Lol.
How can you say that do you own statcounter? Statcounter is old on this business they know how to handle this situation.
It is possible that statcounter may not have been downgraded on purpose manually. An increase requirement in relevancy and a discount for footer links may be enough to do it. I have a couple of sites that suffered a -3 downgrade whose backlinks were obtained in a similar way to statcounter.
Statcounter PR may have been down graded, but it won't affect their traffic. They have reached the point that they don't need PR. Their traffic is generated from a good reputation from sites like DP....I think they over the Google dependancy hump.
This post is really getting hits" I truly believe that statcounter could do a lot better if they did not sell links""
