Yesterday the query for "bharata natyam" was giving something like 24,000 results. Today..... only 13,500 !!!!!! Something BIG has happened, and Google may no longer be able to index a large number of web sites...
As some suggested it all depends on your search preferences and THE DATACENTER from which the results are being retrieved. Almost none of the datacenters have the same number of results, so it's nothing surprising.
I think there is something with my Google Toolbar, because the same search string produces 21,000 results in my Opera and Netscape, but 13,500 in IE6
aim... FIRE!! It does strike me as odd that the minute anyone gets their hands on any information that is at odds with what they think Google "should" be doing, they jump to the conclusion that there is something wrong with gleeful abandon. urm... I'm a mental health nurse and NLP practitioner... it doesn't strike me as odd at all
Hmm interesting - I did it through the Google bar in IE, which uses the .co.uk google (but still set to search the whole web) and it gets far less results than if I visit google.co.uk manually and type in it there (21,000 results that way). No idea how to check which datacentre it's setup to use though, but I'm guessing it's not the same one as on the main google page!
The number of search results for "bharata natyam" has just increased from 24,500 to 31,400 in one day.
Regardless of whether I use IE or FireFox, GG reports about 2,190,000 pages found. Normally the number is about 1,200,000 for both Google and Yahoo!. Y! is still reporting 1,200,000. I do not see any changes whatsoever in SERPS for the keyphrases I track.
yeah, they must have dropped a bunch of sites....I mean added a bunch of sites. I mean...check out Google Doubles Index Size lol
