Google has greyed out PR bar in many directories

I've noticed that the Google PR indicator bar has been greyed out for the category pages of many general directories.

The home pages of these directories still have pagerank, but the inner category pages where sites are listed, which used to have PR, are now greyed out. If you put your pointer over the bar, you see the words "No pagerank information available".

It seems to me that there are too possible explanations:

    1. The category pages of these directories have lost their previous pagerank and are now PR0.

    2. These pages still have pagerank, but Google doesn't want to reveal it.

Does anyone have any information about this?
    Thank you

This 'phenomenon' isnt limited to directories. I have been seeing this a lot. I don't think that it means PR0 because there are still plenty of sites and pages that actually say "PR0" in the tool bar.

Could Google have started doing this as a way to make it harder for directories to sell listings.

A lot of people buy listings in directories to get a PR boost for their sites, but now they won't know how much boost they will get, or even if they will get any at all.

It doesnt have anything to do with directories. The same thing is happening to all kinds of different websites

My road rage site has directories for articles I wrote, and a couple of them were greyed out for a while. 1 finally came back with the original rating, still waiting for the other.

this means that there is NO pagerank info for the specific page

This does not mean site is not indexed nor has it been penalized by google

Most of these will change the next time pr updae is done

It has happened all over the net. I've mainly seen it with new pages though. Just look at the pagerank of this thread.

Doesn't this usually happen when a mass page rank update is under way?

You can't use this page as an example its only a day old? Does anyone have any hard examples to exclude the possibility of it being directories only?

I can confirm this has happened on a few of my sites (non directories) on internal pages.

It has happened with some of my sites as well. At times the homepage dropped its PR to 0 and a month later it was back to its original PR.
