Google has dropped my indexed pages :-(

Google has dropped indexed pages of my classified site from 1500 to just below 300, i guess this has happened due to duplicate content, but i m not very sure about it.

Can you guys help me on figuring out the problem with the site in terms of seo or why google would have done this?

What are the no of indexed urls and submitted urls>>??

i think your right, this is probably the effect of duplicate content

Thanks, i think the same. Whats the solution to prevent this?

i would also like to add something here that i had made a small mistake which i didnt realise for a while. I had mentioned a common a meta keywords and meta description in the header, which i didn't realise until google started deindexing pages. Can this be one of the reason for google to deindex pages? as its crawler found the keyword and description same for all the pages while crawling my site?

Hello...

Same thing happens to some off our directories and then they go back
up in indexed pages after a few weeks.

Just wait some weeks before applying major updates cause it can go back up. Don't stress

 

Hey this has been going on for 3 months now. So not sure how long do i have to wait.

Its been 12 weeks already, u suggest i should wait longer?

When did you correct the meta tags?

 

My site is always jumping around. At the moment 13,900 pages are indexed but it drops down to around 12,000 sometimes.

Mabey it will go back up soon, but quality over quantity is a good rule to follow.

 

You appear to have detected the problem yourself nirav. Work on meta tags & I really mean give lot of attention to the detail. Make sure to have unique meta description for each page of your site. Good Luck!

Same happen with my sites too but it will corrected in 2-3 weeks so no worries.
