Google has banned my adwords account for promoting a wrong website?

    Hi
A couple of weeks back i started to promote an affiliate product (truthaboutabs) on google adwords. But even before i can start, google banned my account citing i have did not followed their rules. Later on they explained that it was because i was not promoting a good website. The problem was with the products on that website and google has received a lot of complaints about it.

Can anyone tell me how to find good websites which follow the rules and regulations of Google?

    Thanks

Google AdWords favors websites which do not make grandiose or false claims. If they think your site is making a false claim (like "lose 20 pounds in 3 days" type thing), they will ban it. This is a good thing to look for when choosing a product to promote.

Although many people said, you have to choose carefully the website you are gonna promote because they may think your website as a scam.

From what I understand, Truth about abs are constantly trying to get google to reverse the ban. Its a shame cause the product is not a scam. The problem is the way people are promoting it.

Mike Geary the owner of Truth about abs sent out this email update a couple months ago regarding the situation. Here is what he said:

    "Google slap update:
We've had various contacts who were able to talk to managers at google about all of the fitness sites that are "google slapped" (which means that all of those domains have severe quality score penalties on them, so that it's essentially impossible to even get 1 single click from your ads)... it's basically a total "banning" of a domain.

Unfortunately, google has made the decision to ban practically all fitness and fat loss sites on the market currently (at least all clickbank sites and most other fitness sites too)

Negotiations have not gone far as even when we've made requested changes that google asked for, our sites would get "re-slapped" within 24-48 hours after 1 manager lifted the "google slap", but another google employee would "re-slap" the site after they saw it running again.

The only thing I've seen working at least on a small scale is affiliates that have their own domains with their own content built on those domains. Some domains are not google slapped yet, and if you're lucky, you can get some google traffic (at least for some time period) if your site doesn't get targeted for a google slap.

FYI - masked domains DON'T work on google any longer... years ago, masked domains would apparently work even if a main domain got slapped, but this no longer works from word on the street.

Another alternative -- although the traffic isn't as big as google, try to run campaigns on BING/yahoo and see what kind of results you can get. I've also heard that you need to use your own domain to run ads on BING as direct hoplinks are not being accepted. That info is a couple months old though, so I'm not sure if any changes to that policy have taken place.

If I find out any more info about google, I will send updates. As for now, it's still not looking good though for adwords and fitness sites... I'd recommend focusing on SEO, social network traffic, and other forms of organic traffic."

I have a friend who uses Google adwords and he loves it, although he did tell me that it was a bit pricey to get a good ranking.

As far as I am aware it does take quite a bit of effort, not to mention a few complaint sto get you banned, unless of course your website wasn'y generating any cash for google.

Thanks for the recommendation. I got suspended on Google because of a claim on our landing page that Google didn't approve of and was looking for options.

Google is expensive and I found that my targeted campaign would 'top out' on Google (no matter what my budget was it would only get so many clicks). I guess I always thought - once my ad converts profitably I could just throttle up the traffic indefinitely...however when I got to a good testing point Google banned my account. I felt like all that time invested was wasted.

Anyway since you have good recommendations:
Do you (or does anyone) know of any PPC campaigns that charge you per acquisition?

Yes, but there are a lot of grey areas in their terms of service and they make judgement calls without giving you the chance to repair or redeem yourself.

Has anyone had luck restoring a suspended account? I have always been an ethical advertiser but one product blurred the lines. A warning would have been nicer then a permanent suspension. I disabled the ad immediately after they informed me. What is funny is - their marketing team was contacting me seeing if they can optimize my ad budget while their compliance team was suspending me (the ad ran for two months before there was an issue).

    Any advice is appreciated.

Well, if Google banned you, it's their loss. There are plenty of other ad networks that would be more than willing to run your ad campaigns and they don't cost as much as Google Adwords. Adbrite and Miva are some of the options that you have.
