I saw that today. Scary S@#! I thought my browser was screwed up or there was an apocalyptic hacking of all websites that went down.

It is amazing how far the Internet seemed to ground to a halt for the 40 minutes or so that Google was down (I had less Internet savvy friends desperate the research information and the only easy solution I could suggest was to be move them to a different search provider - I doubt they've changed back). Obviously some countries may have been asleep at the time this happened, but to a substantial portion of the world this was big news.

    That was pretty cool.
Someone at Google apparently tagged the "/" as dodgy, therefore making all sites dodgy!

I bet they have a sore bottom now from the spanking they got..

Google was not hacked or making fun around... According to my friend, Google had run a "test-engine" wherein not-so-credible websites are being "mark" with that sign... We should be more aware on that; Google might or might not implement it....

As far as I am aware, Google basically admitted it was a mistake by one of there employees. He/she put a "/" instead of the url of a specific site, meaning that ALL websites (since they all contain a "/") were flagged as harmful by mistake.
