    I doubt it. Usenet / newsgroups <> GoogleGroups (!)

    True, Google has hidden the difference between the two, but usenet/newsgroups have existed since the dark ages.

    My question is: How are they connecting the newsgroups to their forum?

    I would guess they're using a nntp server, and not using google at all. There are free ones available, as well as for-pay ones, and your isp might even come with one!

    Any newsgroup is accessible via nntp servers. Most ISPs allow you access to them - check with your ISP and use something like Outlook Express and you'll access groups like alt.x.x with no worries. Google in no form or shape owns the 2 newsgroups you mention.

    I suggest reading about Usenet to get a basic understanding of how it works -

    Isn't necessary that Google offers a NNTP service - for Google Groups - so i can use it ?

    As I wrote, that is just because Google does not differentiate between its own groups and usenet ones.

    * alt.comp.freeware
    * alt.comp.shareware

    Have existed long before GoogleGroups/Newsgroups came.
