Northeastern University of Boston, MA, USA has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Google, claiming the database architecture that Google uses to feed up search results has been misappropriated, according to The Boston Globe.

The lawsuit claims the technology was developed and patented by a company called Jarg in Waltham, Mass., that was co-founded by Northeastern professor Kenneth Baclawski. The patent, owned by the university and licensed to Baclawski, covers a method for sectioning database queries into different portions that are each processed by a different computer.

Another patent troll. Although I don't like Google, I hate patent trolls. What's the f*cking wrong with splitting and executing queries on a bunch of servers? If this story were true, I predict that the patent will be voided due to prior arts.

When you have as much money as Google does, I think it's safe to say that it's to be expected that you are going to get sued by somebody. Money brings all the greedy little people out and gets them thirsty......

Patent trolls are complete scum. Just look how blackberry and its customers were held hostage to a patent troll.

are these jury trials or is a judge making these ridiculous monetary "rewards"

Eventually all they end up doing is raising the cost for the rest of us.

    google crawl website without permissions.
Sometimes some hackers can find digital product very easy from the google search.

    This is not fair.

    Hah! Yet again!

Google are always getting sued, this is old news.

Google does crawl without permission but its the site owners responsibility to protect dl pages.

Use robot.txt and disallow the bot to crawl the folder. No rocket science knowledge required.

This is the same logic as:

Build a wall around your home and dig a moat for their are thieves afoot.

Google is no angel and I see them ruin websites on a daily basis and cancel Adsense accounts without reason nor reprisal.

I am a Northeastern University student, the rumor is true.

Whether this will ever see court is up in the air. Jarg is just requesting the royalties they deserve.
