Nice try posting an article just to get exposure. No, they haven't gone too far, as public space is just that: public. If you don't want someone driving down the street in front of your house, buy 100 acres in the middle of nowhere and put up "No Trespassing" signs. Otherwise, shut up and go about your business.

No I won't shut up, it's about google and it's in the google forum and it has raised concerns in the UK. Trying to get exposure, what are you on about? it's a discussion and if you find it hard to discuss things go to another forum.

Congratulations, you're well on your way to making yourself the laughingstock of DP. Nobody actually cares what the hell you have to say about this; you're only trying to get exposure by posting this useless drivel. Why don't you just go away before you embarrass yourself further? Refer to 90% of the replies to this thread for a decent start on explaining why you're full of crap.

What a wonderful service. The people who started suing Google for making the most amazing map of all, are simply afraid of the world they live in.

I thing they outlawed this service in the US, however. I remember I could go to street view in their pilot projects of San Francisco some years ago which is not possible now.

Yes anyone can, but why would they if someone does it free of charge for them and indexes them all in an easy to find place. Especially when you can access the data and become almost untraceable by not having to send out recon and run the risk of being caught.

Where as a terrorist organization would have to send recon out and risk the chance of getting caught. Once they've got caught their operation would be ruined thus making going out and taking photographs more of a risk vs reward when its already done for them.

Its not scare mongering, its actually what people do when they look at a bigger picture rather than just "Oh its google so its okay and can't be used for harm"

Funny you seem to think I care about some sort of imaginary reputation on a forum, obvious these forums hold a greater meaning to you than they do to me.

If it was useless drivel don't respond to a thread then just let it pass.

This has been online in the states for at least a year - has there been an increase in terrorist activity in that time? No there hasn't. There has been devastating terrorist actions in Mumbai. They don't have these Google photos. Terrorists don't do what they do because it's easy for them - far from it.
It's nothing to do with thinking that something that google produces can't do harm - it's a realistic assessment of how every step in the increase of the spread of knowledge has carried with it scare-mongering about how criminals and terrorists are going to use it and how this makes us all more unsafe. It doesn't. This doesn't make us any more 'unsafe' that the aerial photos google has had online for years, or mobile phones, or video games.

When they find someone with enough balls to drive around in a new car with a 50 000 dollar camera and 50 000 dollars worth of electrical goods in the back seat ....

Google needs to include a 3D view of interiors of the white house so bin laden doesn't get lost looking for the bathroom when he visits obama XD

right - like security experts arent working with google right now, providing false information and images, so when the terrorist jumps down that air conditioning vent, he actually ends up in a garbage compactor ;)

Just let them do it, as long as they do not rob your privacy.

i know its unexceptionable you can see my house on maps that means terrorists can find me! OMG!

lol theres no privacy issues with google street maps there static images not live feeds so its really doesnt matter if you think its an invainion of your privacy move to somewhere like the desert then noone will have pictures of your house.
