On a serious note, criminals can use this technology to check out any house, without actually visiting it.

They can check if it has any security systems, alarms etc,
They can check if there are any side alleys to the buildings for easy access.
The type of windows it has etc

 

I think this is fun not dangerous

 

What's stopping them from doing that in person?

 

I think it's a great idea, although it takes away a little bit of privacy.

I read that some people were angry with Google because they were filmed in places they don't want to be seen, if you get me

 

How does it take away privacy? You can ask for your house or yourself to be removed, simply via a link/contact form, and it will be done.

Don't be an idiot. Maps go out dated and don't provide nearly the detail that Google Earth or Streets can provide.

Its a very legitimate concern with high ranking officials and security experts who are focused on the security industry and counter-terrorism

 

I just saw a news story about this today where some cities in the US were trying to get Google to stop doing this because it gives an easy way for child predators to stalk their victims.

Incredible invasion of privacy if you ask me.

 

If you are outside of your house, you are not entitled to privacy. Meaning - the people who work for google or anyone else can take pictures. Laws are different from country to country. But here in Texas, USA - someone can take a picture of your house and there is nothing you can do.

So no, I do not think that google has "gone too far". They are trying to offer a service that nobody else has.

Yup - probably some old fart, who's last computer was a Commodore 64, trying to get into the news.

I would hate to be the poor sods who blur faces, number plates and signs etc. and that's where I don't understand the fears .... everyone looks the same with their blurred faces.

 

Anybody can take photographs - google hasn't invented anything new. It's not a 'legitimate concern' - it's scare-mongering.

 

You forgot to mention a waste of bloody money - they're just showing off now .... money would have been better off going into publisher account IMO ....

I've been using google street view for a while now. It's great for checking out places to travel and hotels
