Google going downhill (round 1000)

I'm sure it's be covered 1000 times before but I'll say it again.

I think Google search is going downhill.

In the past about 1 in 20 or 1 in 50 searches got me made for adsense results. Not enough to be a problem.

Now that number seems to be between 1 and 10 or 1 and 15. It seems I can't do more than a handfull of searches before hitting tons of made for adsense pages.

I've always loved google and advise people to use it all the time. But more and more google is becoming rotten from the inside out by peoples hunger for money.

I've never liked Yahoo but I find myself tuning to them and other search engines with every additional made of adsense page I get via a google search.

Surely google had to realize eventually well networked web masters and those up to no good would exploit their search engine model. However let's remember that ever MFAdsense site is actually generating money for google. So how interested are they really in cleaning up the problem ? Yes it's a problem. Yes they are working on it. But let's face it - this is a problem with an upside.

I realize google works very hard and their services are free and it's a free country and maybe I should just put a sock in it and mind my own business and bla bla bla but I'm complaining anyhow.

I've seen more than a few threads with people saying google is on top of the market and will only continue to go up but I doubt this highly. All great things come to an end and googles end may be coming very soon if they don't deal with the reality that their search engine is becoming a spammers haven.

ps. The search that pushed me over the top was something for big screen tvs. Three searches later and nothing but made for adsense sites, some of which are in clear violation of adsense TOS. PR0 pages appearing in the top 3 results with no valuable content. Obviously pages made for adsense.

To be honest, I don't think it will go down hill.. I agree with your argument.. but... Google has surpassed "just a search engine"

I forgot to mention one other obvious blunder I've seen google (as in the google toolbar) make recently.

Over the span of about 4 days google toolbar constantly alerted me that https://www.paypal.com or http://www.paypal.com were phishing sites

    :\

I can understand having paypal.com mislabled for a few hours (even that is a bit too long) but come on... google telling me 4 days in a row that paypal.com (Alexia ranking 668) is a phishing site..

Yes Google is more than a search engine but even the greatest of things fall.

I think the claim that Google will "stay on top" is almost laughable. After all Google started out as an idea two guys had (which another company was already looking into) which was initially named "BackRub" (wikipedia).

So who is to say another two people or another two thousand people wont come along with a better idea (just like google did).

I'm seeing some odd results in google today. As well as not appearing for our main keyword  - when I conduct a number of searches (google UK) It brings back sites which it wouldn't normally - not necessarily spam sites but sites that definitely aren't the most relevant for the searrch - it's as if it's stepped back 2 years. Also, a umber of sites aren't displaying a discription along with the search result which is very odd

i looked into this briefly with a few variations of big screen tv's, including one (major) brand.. i did find one site:

    http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=big+screen+tv+mitsubishi&btnG=Google+Search

nextag (#2) - that is clearly crap, but beyond them i didn't really find any other 'spam'

although keep in mind i'm not 'big screen tv' expert, at best i probly represent the typical ill informed. (pretty basic searches)

one thing i can say though is that i noticed on every search, the adwords/adsense ads were insanely accurate compared to the 'niche' i 'covered' in another thread.

One thing I have noticed is that people that have no rankings on google complain that its spam this, spam that, yet people that do have good ranking have an opposing view.

...I would also like to point out that I hate results that are returned back from web sites / pages published back in 98-02

That is really funny. Hilarious infact :D
Yahoo! may have been #1 once but even MSN excels them now and they certainly are not past Google  - If so how come they are losing 30% if real searchers? If Yahoo is best explain to me why they index spam so fast and yet take weeks to get the good stuff and then still rank the spam higher? Yahoo uses methods from 2001. Ask any BH and they will tell you Yahoo is the best battlefield for BH techniques.

I take it you mean those ones with clipart right? ;) I kind of hate those too but there are also some really great sites and even companies from back then so there is really no good way of levying the bad ones out since they have a right to be there I guess too.

When you find them open notepad and submit the url of the search, the url of the bad site and the keyword. Then whenever you get a chance send them in a PM. They should be removed within 36 hrs.

It's almost as if you were looking at the same results i was. Although not 'spam' (which is why i didn't mention it) I caught at least 2 pages that were 4-6+ years old in the top 10-15 results. Useless.
