Hi, I still have a problem with Google with one of my sites. When I search for "site:geruechte-forum.de profil stefan" I get a result with the following link text in the serps: "Profil von stefan Profil von stefan Alles über stefan stefan ..." But the title of the page is "Profil von stefan" which is also the first h1 headline. It seems Google concats title, headline and part of the text as title for the listing of my site in the serps. Has anyone noticed something like that? What to do about it? Apart from that I have some other problems with the site. Google gets the language wrong. It's a German forum but Google thinks most pages are in english. In addition, most pages are in supplemental results even though they all have lots of unique content. I thought maybe the english coop links are responsible for that, so I've already removed them. I'm a bit clueless what to do about that. Do you have any suggestions? In contrast to that, Yahoo loves my forum, I have lots of #1 there for the keywords. Thanks in advance. Best regards, NiB
Very very interesting... 'Alles uber stefan' is in a TH I see. This page isn't in DMOZ by any chance is it? Does it do the same with other user pages?
It does that for any page of the forum as it seems. The page isn't in DMOZ as far as I know. (Just checked again and couldn't find anything.)
I've seen this for a while on a number of my pages. It tends to occur for deep pages which are also marked supplemental. What appears to happen is that Google lengthens the page title by adding the first bit of text from the page itself. For our site I have assumed that its because we had a number of pages with either the same or over similar page titles (dynamic content being accessed in different ways). To combat this we have taken steps to make our page titles include more variety. However I do not know at this time if this will fix it as Google takes a long time to index deep pages on our site. (We have pages with date stamps of July 2005 in the Google index still!)
I noticed it only happens for the pages which are in the supplemental index. The serps link text of those 5 pages that aren't in there and where Google gets the language right is correct. Though, for most of the normal forum postings, the link text in the serps is wrong, too - not only for the profile pages. And those normal postings do have completely different headlines / titles. I wonder if and how the problems I have are connected to each other. Does Google put the pages in the supplemental index because it thinks they're English even though they're German? Or does it get the language wrong, because they're in the supplemental index?
I have had the dmoz description with my live page title, and vice versa. Google is just pulling data from everywhere at the moment. I even have a case where google was showing the cache of a totally different site.
I am getting it correct Profil von stefan Alles über stefan .. Wohnort , Anmeldungsdatum 10.03.2006, Benutzer, 12 Beiträge. geruechte-forum.de/stefan-u10.html - 7k - Cached - Similar pages
