Google Geotargeting - Target USA from Australia

I have a question about Google geotargeting.

If a web site is hosted in Australia and has good Australian google results, if I set geotargeting to USA (purpose: expect more traffic), will the Australian results disappear from Google search?

Has anyone done / tested it?

    Thanks.

I have looked in to this, and I am still not completely sure. I had a similar concern on an old site. It did seem to effect it a bit but not greatly (although that might have been other factors). You won't lose your site from results, you will just have more US rather than AU links which Google might take in to account?

YOu could look at creating a sub-domain e.g. us.xx.com to target the US with bespoke content etc

webmaster tools geotargeting option is considered by the search engine only when the user searches using country specific google adress.
So, If I live in France and you target your site to .fr, then it will be considered only if I search using google.fr.
If I(living in France) search using google.com, then that option of yours will not be considered when building SERPS.

targeting multiple countries for a single site probably would not be that easy. best approach is having at least a small website for other countries. or you can use subdomains.

I moved one of my sites from AU to US. Let's see how it behaves.

Setting Geo-Targeting is only one of the factors when targeting another region. You should also build links coming from that region as well. This shows Google that your site is relevant to the region.
