Google front page for popular term but few clicks

My site is number 5 for a term that gets 2488 US searches daily according to wordtracker. However, there is no clicks. It has nothing to do with site design because I simply want people to click on the Google listing. Nonetheless, I get only 5 - 10 people daily for the search term.

What is the problem? Is it my Google listing description or do people simply type in the term and click on nothing? Perhaps they are only clicking on the 1st 3 listings or maybe Wordtracker is lying?

Two issues here. Wordtracker is known to be very inaccurate. This tool gathers data from meta search engines (not many people use these engines) The second problem is you are ranked #5. You really want to aim higher if you want a significant amount of traffic for that keyword.

That's interesting. So # 5 isn't good enough? Generally, the term always gets around 2,000 - 2,500 searches daily according to wordtracker. Should I look at another tool besides wordtracker?

I should at the very least get 10 percent of 2488 or 248 visitors daily. That was my original plan. But maybe I should try to rank for many small terms. That's how I got my music site to get 250 visitors daily. But I do get a signifigant amount of traffic for my music site from two terms which (together) get around 1000 daily searches (according to wordtracker).

Generally you want to aim for #1-3 which make up the bulk of the traffic. Wordtracker is crap you should use Google Keyword Tool.

Google Ad words tool shows 2387 average daily searches (74000 / 31 days in a month). That's similar to Wordtracker so perhaps the 1 - 3 position gets all the clicks or people search and don't click. What do you think?

I am pretty sure that you are using wrong keywords i.e. keywords with low traffic estimates. Additionally, it would be nice to re-purpose your meta description if you think the problem is associated with it. We rank 23 for ultra-competitive keyword but we still get loads of traffic on that term.

visitors. So please check it out and see what is the problem.

    Hi

i just searched the terms in google. a genuine job searcher may not be visiting this site since the description in the search result looks not catchy. Rephrase your meta description and put enough content on your page. You can expect some decent traffic soon.

What is a good catchy description?

    How about

FindFastWork.com - Jobs in My Area

and then add a longer description below it.

    or how about

Find Local Jobs - Jobs in My Area

I have to put "jobs in my area" because if I don't then it might not rank well for the term.

The description for my music site Free Music Study dot com gets quite a few hits. Just type in Free Music Study in Google and check out the description. Why is that description better?

As others have said, what you choose as the value for the content attribute of the <meta name="description"> element can have a BIG impact on click-thru-rate. It even has great impact on whether or not your <meta name="description"> is shown as the snippet at all.

If your URL is targetting "jobs in new york city" then you will want to have the words "jobs", "new", "york", and "city" ALL in the <meta name="description"> element. Since the <title> element of your page SHOULD have the targeted keyword phrase(s) in it, I ALWAYS make sure that I work ALL kewyords from the <title> into my <meta name="description"> element. If your pages are well SEO'd then the targeted keyword phrase(s) from the <title> will be the search phrase that MOST people use to find your page.

Google checks to see if all keywords from the search phrase exist in the <meta name="description"> element. If they do then they will generally show your <meta name="description"> element as the snippet. Otherwise they will construct one which may or may not be good...

It's a good idea to have some kind of call to action to get the user to click on your link. I try to start my <meta name="description"> elements with action words words like "Discover..." or "Find out about..." or "Learn about..." or "Get the facts about..." for informational type pages in hopes of making them "want" to click on my link because they think it's going to give them the information they seek.

If your <title> is "Find Local Jobs - Jobs in My Area" then MOST people should be finding your URL in the SERPs because of "Find Local Jobs" and secondarily because of "Jobs in My Area"... You always want your primary targeted keyword phrase to appear 1st followed by the secondary keyword phrase (if applicable) followed by the tertiary keyword phrase (if applicable).

So if I search for find local jobs and your URL shows up in the SERPs, Google is NOT going to show your <meta name="description"> element because it does NOT contain "local", one of the keywords from my search phrase. So they are likely going to try to construct one because Google's goal is to be able to highlight/bold EVERY keyword from your search phrase in the snippet.

Figure out a way to add "local" to the description and you should be good in most cases where they find your URL... maybe something like:

This will keep the description under 150 characters AND include all keywords from your <title>.

    Iv'e changed the description to

How about the site design. The site could use a logo. Basically I want people to go to the job search. The job search gives the listings. But if less than 0.025 get the foreign jobs (the ad listed below the search) then I make all the money I need. But the job search might turn out 20 dollars a day if I can get 200 people a day.

Actually I got to the front page with "Jobs in my Area" secondary. If I include "Jobs in My Area" as the first term then that could turn people away because "Find Local Jobs" is a more catchy responsive phrase (more likely to get clicks). Do you think so?
