Google friendly website at maintenance http status message

    If your site or server is temporarily down for maintenance, you should set it to return status code 503 - Sevice Unavailable. The major search engines will all respect that code and simply revisit the site later. See http://www.w3.org/Protocols/rfc2616/rfc2616-sec10.html for the complete list of status codes and their meanings.
