Just found this ad in craigslist ... a job ad by google : (http://www.craigslist.org/pen/sad/42789078.html) This is among what google is looking for : Must have superior network routing protocol troubleshooting skills. (BGP, OSPF, ISIS, and MPLS) Excellent knowledge of TCP/IP, including POS, PPP, VRRP, HSRP, and SNMP protocols. Extensive hands-on experience with security issues and Access Control mechanisms to prevent unwanted access. Experience with standard network change management and configuration policies. In-depth knowledge of network monitoring and other network administrative tools. Network certification (or equivalent training/experience) preferred. (CCNP, CCIE, JNCIE) Are these not completely new fields for google ... OSPF, MPLS, PPP, SNMP ... is google next going to give cisco and juniper a run for their money ???
I agree, a lot of their jobs are simply to keep their system running smooth... rather than directly related to their products and services.
