For the past 1 week, my site keeps popping into the #4 for a few hours the gone, then back again. The data centers never show it on the first page.
    Whats going on?

My site is doing something very similar for certain keywords. Goes to front page, sometimes for 8 hours, then all the way back to 90 + position where it normally resides for the more competitive keywords. It has done this the last 3-4 days except today it never popped in the 1st page. Don't have a clue.

The site already ranks well for my 1st targeted keywords, but I'm concentrating on some bigger ones now in which the situation I described above happens. It's a completely different phenomenon compared to the gradual climb I had for the original targeted keywords.

Don't have a clue what's happening, just sharing that I'm experiencing a very similar issue which is pretty exciting until it drops.;)

This is Google's efforts in changing ranking order for the same keyword in attempt to display other matches to the searcher in case another search attempt is made after a while.

well, its shuffling 4 thing. Your site will come at 4 and then after some time that place will be taken by some news/youtube page. You need to get some good links to stay there.

I guess this is what they call "Google Dance". And the cure would be more backlinks, if posible quality backlinks.

Yup that's what happen to my new blog site.. before it was on the 90th position.. then jumped to 4th position but without the cache link.. so I am guessing it's not going to be for long.. it could go back to 90th position or somewhere in between.. regarding the content.. since this is a blog.. the main page keep changing with new content.. the way i see it.. google is still figuring the right serp for my new blog..
