My sites been out there for a month or so. My backlinks finally showed up when I did a link popularity check on marketleap this moring. Does this have anything to do with updating pr or is that a completely different issue?

    Thanks

That so great . I am still working for some more backlinks in order for me to increased some PR . Anyway it seems that google have update the Pr ranking since some of my blogs have increased PR some maintained only as long as it isn't decreasing that would be fine to me .

With this latest update I've noticed Google gets more picky about the backlinks they display when you do a

I noticed the same exact thing as well. A week ago when doing this with several of my sites, the number of links shown was between 40-80% more than I can see when doing this today. Just wondering if this is a permanent or temporary thing.

Actually, I'm assuming your meaning the link: search operator. Because in Google Webmasters Central the external links displayed are ALL your registered backlinks by Google, even the nofollow inbound links are listed. This is updated much more often as well.

Google seems to take longer and longer to list backlinks and only lists a small percent of them or accepts a small amount of links

link: w ww.ur l.co m is not a very reliable way of checking the links anymore. Far better to use one of the backlink checking tools. The link:w ww.u rl.co m only shows a small amount of the links.
