Okay, I've always had this question in my mind every time I ask people I never feel like I'm getting a good answer. I figured I could ask you nice people here in this forum and possible get this question that I have cleared up.

People have been talking for quite some time that if you submit your site to a whole bunch of directories all at once and don't have a consistant record of directory submissions, or you do a ton of link exchanges at one time, or article submissions at one time etc etc, that Google will flag your site and it will effect your future ranking ability.

My question is has anyone really got nailed by this? If so, what happened? From the way I hear people explain this to me, it sounds like your site just gets sand boxed. But doesn't every site go through the sand box effect? I just figure any time I start a new site that I shoul wait for 6-9 months before I see huge results in the serps. Any thoughts?
