Hi Everyone, I have a blog that is about anything tech and largely instructional. I'm no expert in SEO but I'm learning all of the time. I am seeking your thoughts about having different topics on a blog. There are a few posts left over on our blog from when it first started out that have nothing to do with web design, programming, etc. For example, those posts are getting us Google and Yahoo image hits for phrases like 'cypress trees' and 'hot air balloons' and I am wondering if this is hurting our rank. Another thing I am curious about: Since we are getting good results on a lot of search terms, sometimes I feel like posting an 'off topic' post again. Maybe even something about local restaurants. That is far off from our usual posts. I know that throws off what our blog is about but I can't help to watch what would happen. I'm just in a big learning experience right now. I guess my basic question is - is it a bad idea to have different topics? Will Google think that this site is not making any sense? I am thinking I should delete anything that is not tech and not post anything off topic ever again. Do you think that is the right move? Many thanks, Kayla
yes I would agree to it, if the site is about a particular theme then off topic content will not be useful for the site
Thanks for the response. I am thinking I better delete those older posts that are not tech related. Is it safe to just remove them and then use Google Webmaster Tools to let them know they are gone?
I dont see a problem with some off-topic posts. After all, even many top blogs have a very broad niche. You can just classify under Others or Ranting or Misc.
That's a good point - I just want to make sure that Google sees this blog as tech. I don't know if a few posts once in a while about food or travel would make a difference to the bots.
