Actually, the update before last we found snapshot dates that were 4 months old, but I think G did that just to mess with us. :p

The ones last update were somewhere between 2-4 weeks though based on blog posts dates that got PageRank. It does change with each update (the delay, I mean), but I honestly have no clue what the determining factor is. According to the white paper, Sergey and Larry claim that "Also, a PageRank for 26 million web pages can be computed in a few hours on a medium size workstation", and that was based on 1998 style/class of workstations. I know, we're talking 500 - 600 times that number of webpages now, but the amount of computing power has gone up considerably since then, and I'm sure they are relying on quite a bit more than one "medium size workstation", so why it takes that long is anyone's guess. :p

I have seen the actual rollout, from first appearing to consistent reporting on all dc's, happen in under an hour.

Thanks for making it a sticky. I had to refer to this thread many times in the past as well as of today. Made it easy for me to find.

But thanks for all the info as well as the link to http://livepr.raketforskning.com/ for my own personal reference.

A quick question: how much % of keyword density is too high.. and would be marked as spam by google?

Keyword density is kind of an antiquated concept.

Basically, make your page so it reads well in English (or whatever language you're using) for your visitors.

If it looks spammy to your visitors, it will probably look spammy to a spider too.

Actually, I'm pretty sure that G doesn't take it into account at all algorithmically. Take a look at this page:

    http://www.tracybattles.com/

This is currently the #1 spot for [orlando refinance] in G. Now, Look at the cache with certain keywords highlighted (they are white on white on the actual page):

    http://209.85.165.104/search?q=cache:f742h07aV0YJ:www.tracybattles.com/+orlando+refinance+florida+mortgage&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=1&gl=us

As you can see, no penalty. I'm also pretty sure that the keyword stuffing is actually not contributing to her rankings, but try and tell a webmaster that doesn't know any better and see how far you get. :p

There are tons of examples like that out there.

I don't understand why people can't search for topic they are interested in instead of posting the same topic? :)
