Most people have come across this message at one time or another. It seems to be a general message, or could be targeted at a specific IP range (for dail-up or proxy) at certain stages. You shouldn't be too worried. Normally a refresh should do the trick and clear it up.
You don't even need to clear the system cache. As suggested above, it is a general error message generated by Google. It COULD mean that you searched for something that has been flagged by Google (the Santy worm and a couple of others used Google to find specific search terms like "phpBB 2.06" to locate sites vulnerable to infection). Or it could just mean that something went wrong when Google tried to respond to your search query (I don't think they own a page that says, "Oops! We screwed something up!" yet... Yesterday, I was conducting a search for a specific phpBB MOD (so the query did contain the term "phpBB") - I got search page #1, advanced to page 2, and then got the dreaded GSOD when I clicked on "next page" for page #3. I simply did a refresh and the GSOD was replaced by the correct page 3.
I've been getting this message from time to time as well. I'm also on a Mac, running Camino. It was during a search with PHP in it that I have gotten it, and also when searching for AdSense. (It could be a coincidence, as I've gotten it with other queries as well.) This all just started a few days ago.
I've seen that message intermittently ever since the first worm targeting Google searches - that goes back to last fall or last Christmas.
Well, it's good to know it's not just me. Has anyone else noticed that the Google logo looks weird on the error page? It looks like some kind of 1980's version of the logo... TIME TRAVEL GOOGLE
There is a script on the net that can be used to spam phpbb guest books,in responce google reduces the number of results it will show for phpbb searches. I have a copy of the code used, daft thing is that it is easy to get around so a waste of time google implamenting it.
Yeah, right. 1. phpBB is forum software, not a "guestbook". 2. the script in question that resulted in Google intervening was a virus/worm that was using Google to locate potentially vulnerable sites, not a spam script 3. after Google blocked it, they went on to try the same thing with MSN and Yahoo, who also reportedly found a way to block the searches
We're sorry... ... but we can't process your request right now. A computer virus or spyware application is sending us automated requests, and it appears that your computer or network has been infected. We'll restore your access as quickly as possible, so try again soon. In the meantime, you might want to run a virus checker or spyware remover to make sure that your computer is free of viruses and other spurious software. We apologize for the inconvenience, and hope we'll see you again on Google. I am getting above message today. So please help me what should I do
1. read the rest of this thread 2. "you might want to run a virus checker or spyware remover to make sure that your computer is free of viruses and other spurious software", even though that isn't likely to be the problem 3. wait a while and try again - while you're waiting, read a few more threads at DigitalPoint - make yourself a coffee and think about the pros and cons of having a bagel with it - perhaps right down those pros and cons in a two column format - when you've finished that, do the same with toast
