Stupid. When the google era is over, we the webmasters will know. At this time its only wise to optimize for google, msn and yahoo. If somewhere in the future there will be a need to optimize for another search engine, we'll do that, but for now it's stupid to concentrate on any other search engine. When the time comes, we'll adapt. Google's algorithm is currently the best, and could almost be said, with no competitors. Therefor any other search engine which will try to outrank google will either adapt some or the majority of google ranking techniques or develop a completely new unique system. Whatever happens, a search engine will only survive if it's user friendly and brings the most relevant results. And since I build my websites for USERS first and then for the search engines, they are both user friendly and provide my users with things they search for. Therefor any exaggerated fear of losing SERPs or traffic is unnecessary.
A title that GM held for a mere 74 consecutive years. 9.5 million for Toyota, 9.3 million for GM in 2007, a huge gap. Yep, better start optimizing now for the inevitable "SE Shift of 2078". ( I hope my competitors are using your services. In fact, I think I will refer you. )
Everything can happen. Look what is happening in the world. The oldest and largest institutions are on the edge of grave. So google is not immune to anything. Google bit well established search engines at that time like yahoo, infoseek, altavista, etc. so who can guarantee that some other unknown guys can come and bit google. Absolutely possible. ------------------------------- Click Cutter Save yourself 352 mouse clicks a day. clickcutter.com
Go ask the 'average user' about those other search engines and they'll look at you with a blank stare.. ask those same people "how to you find something on the internet" and 82.3% will answer "Google it" ..
Google Era will never end. competitors will come and will get kicked outta it. i love google and will forever, they stands out, rest all are jus copy cats.
I'm asking you again: What guidelines for webmasters offers any of search engine mentioned by you in your first post (searchme, cuil)? What we should do, to follow your advice? What I can do for CUIL, besides tweak my robots.txt for Twiceler? If I change my robots.txt file, I will gain your attention? What to do? What to do to "focus on them"? Please answer. I want to focus!
I am not sure if its something "user friendly" or "great user experience" but however, I don't believe searchme.com has a good feature displaying a parked domain as third result for a relatively common search term as "seo optimization". Unfortunately there can be a lot of companies that can try and beat out Google, but I am telling you that Google is so powerful and strong at this moment that these "new" search engines can only pray and hope that Google will have a huge economical crash or some really nasty publicity that will crack them down to the ground, thats the only possiblity someone CAN actually have to BECOME a search engine and not just one of the search engines.
You have posted into the wrong forum, my worshipful friend. Next time post here: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/forumdisplay.php?f=97 I don't know what Yahoo thought but many visitors thought that Yahoo was rubbish and it still is rubbish. Nothing has changed. That, and only that was the reason for Google to succeed. Now, there is a difference, Google is not rubbish, so it won't be knocked off its pedestal. I visited the sites you pointed out and to me they seem ridiculous. Why would I let somebody consume my PC resources with a ludicrous Flash game that shows me a couple of irrelevant results, huh? Care to explain? How would I benefit from using this searchme? Why did you post this anyway? What is the point? Do you, personally, use searchme?
Anything's possible, but searchme taking dominance over G is simply funny. With time, Cuil might get better with time and if they tag up with yahoo or msn, then with proper investment and R&D they might become a prime player in the industry. Time shall reveal!
Sorry but there are too many usefull things released by google which makes me like it even more than any of these search engines all togethere. Why would somebody stop optimizing their site to get higher ranks in google , hoping for others to pass the google, which now seems to be impossible at all... I would agree about THINKING a bit about tommorow , but not living TOMMOROW cause by doing so you are going to fail much... You should actually consider stop living in your dreams tho - take this as an advice
it wont be that easy to take over google. google will look at their competitor, copy the same idea but make it better. google will never give up. also, google offers other things except for search engine. that's a big thing that google has and others dont.
I TOTALLY disagree. Google era is far from over... its at least another 5 to 10 years. I don't see any of the other players catching up with google. Cause you have to remember, google provides more than just search results. Cuil was a complete disaster. Searchme... well, its going to be pretty difficult to keep those images of 1000000000 of websites updated.
I wanna think tommorow, I wanna live tommorow. I wanna focus. But I don't know how... Lead me, please...
Ok, I was thinking about it and thinking, and thinking... and I've got it finally. Many of us was thinking lately: Is Google Era's over? And we've found the anwer: Yes, it is over. So we started to think: why Google Era is over? It wasn't easy, but I figured it out - finally. The answer is: Google Era is Over, because he said so.
Sorry I just can't agree with the premise...yet. Google currently owns the search engine market and the new engines that keep coming on line are not very good. I get a lot of CUIL traffic, but when I go look to see what search terms are hit it's pathetic. They aren't even coming close to the content of my pages. Google is still the best thing out there. Eventually, someone else will come up with a better search engine, but it hasn't happened yet.
I disagree. The search engine of "tommorrow" will still be Google...adapted for the times...but still Google.
