Has anyone else noticed that Google has started being tougher on duplicate content the past month or two? It seems that they are de-indexing or not indexing most duplicate content (i.e. syndicated articles, etc) now. Any thoughts? Anyone else notice this?
@Adam I might not agree with it, because if it will happen the first one to get on axe will be auto feeds website. But for every search I see one such auto feed website in search engine on 2nd or 3rd page...
I have noticed they have put more of what you are talking about in omitted results. But I have heard you still get the backlinks.
Though I haven't really seen evidence of it since I use unique content on my sites, if I were Google and needing to free up room in my index, duplicate content would absolutely be the FIRST thing I would purge... especially mashup sites that are essentially re-publishing other peoples content they've scraped or ripped using RSS feeds. Personally, I'm all for it.
If I were Google, I would not apply rules to others when I am not able to respect these rules at home. As everyone knows, Google directory is a full duplicate content of DMOZ directory (both categories and link text content), but google directory has never been penalized and both identical contents are found in the SERPs.
you may right and if you want to add some duplicate content to your website from any other website then you can put the author bio to avoid deindexing.
