Google Drops TWO Alexa Rankings In ~2 Days

Wow. Google is now #4 in Alexa ranking.

    1) Yahoo
    2) Youtube
    3) Live
    4) Google

Pretty interesting how they've dropped down (2) whole rankings in just a matter of two days. Is something up? Not sure, but damn interesting! Compete doesn't have their February stats up, but I'll for sure be checking those out next month.

Easily manipulated and very inaccurate. There isn't a chance in hell that live gets more visitors than Google. That would make Live close to or bigger than Google in-terms of visitors and we know they don't even come close in the market shares for search engines.

Normally I'd agree if we were talking about rank 100 or rank 1000... but when you start talking about the top 5... I'm not that sure. It's hard to manipulate the top 100 rankings.

Live traffic has probably increased due to Microsoft's bid for Yahoo!

Thats interesting. Maybe that could be a result of some kind disorder between Google and Alexa?

In 2003 there was an estimate that Alexa had a sample size of 180,000 for calculating traffic. In my opinion that's probably dropped a hell of a lot since then due to built in tools and features of new firefox and IE browser versions. It's fairly obsolete now.

I don't see how a sample size of 180,000 can give accurate readings of complete Internet traffic for the top five sites, nevermind a sample size a lot lower than that which is probably how it is now.

The only way I can be even close to accurate is if it takes into account the sub-domains since home.live.com is the home of Hotmail and other services. I really doubt the rankings are true though, just my opinion.

It will be interesting to see Compete's stats when they come online.

Also try overlaying the traffic graphs from Google & Youtube, the one for Google is a lot higher than Youtube which doesn't add up.

I think it is because of Yahoo News. Everyone go to Yahoo.com to see, what is going on the takeover by Microsoft and then they search in Yahoo and not in Google.

    Hi,
    2 things:
    First, Google is still m.3
Secondly, Live get almost every MSN traffic and alexa count that one - so Google is still the best SE.

Live ahead of Google? We all know Google dominates 70% of the search engine market. So that's another proof how f*cked up alexa rankings are.
