    Hey there,

I was wondering if anybody else is experiencing a problem with Google dropping pages out of its index?

I was excited I just got a few pages indexed from my site. They were quality pages with content too so it doesnt make sense why they would be dropped.

    Sincerely,
    Travis Walters

try resubmitting the sitemap back again in your google webmaster area and see if pages from your sitemap are included in the index or not

Sometimes, especially when you have been adding many new content pages or links very quickly, such things might happen that are normal in most cases and nothing to worry about. Actually Google has not been deleting or dropping the pages from its main indexes but from the normal pages you have been using. Try not doing anything for a couple of days and see what happens as this has been working in many cases.

Yes, this happens to my site also.
Number of indexed pages drops to 300 from 2500.
Luckily, rankings for main keywords are still same :D .

Yeah... Google dance knocked me off the top spot that I have held for over 4 years for a keyword that was actually a typo of sorts...

    Hey there,

It looks like there was a CFHTTP look-up to resolve a host name from an IP address. This was to check to see if the user was banned. I am not sure why but it was not resolving for web crawlers and returning 500 errors. I took this out today and used a web crawler simulator and was getting 200 OK success.

Hopefully Google will reindex my pages now.

    Sincerely,
    Travis Walters

Google dropping some of your pages from the index might be a temporary phenomenon. It happens over a period but if you keep your contents refreshed, the chances of your pages getting reindexed are high :)

Also if you are using WordPress there is a strong chance you have been hacked. This just happened to me and I'm in a really bad situation now :(

I've had my rankings drop for my main keywords since the beginning of the week, also my home page is no longer indexed and google keeps sending unrelated traffic my way. I have noticed that there's still a lot of bouncing around of sites for the keyword, and google decided there was 500,000 sites, then 2,500,000, then back to 500,000 sites for my main keyword. My traffic has halved but my sales have more than doubled and my bounce rate has shot up from 25% to 45% so I have no idea what is going on.

i'm hoping it all calms down soon, then i can relax a little

yes..... it happened to many sites... when you have more common word like car, trucj, tub , bottle in your keyword....

Google is now more strict to general keywords...

i have seen in many sites...

My keywords are like green businesses, green products.. I do not think that is general.

I think I may have been wrong in my assumption of CFHTTP now. Something keeps causing my servers CPU usage to rise to 50% on occasions and I have to restart JRun. After that happens, crawlers can crawl the site. If I do not restart constantly it looks like crawlers have trouble.. this is so flusterating

I dont think that was the case.

The pages it indexed were there no more than 24 hours.

Google cant expect everyone to update pages everyday :)

Besides quality content should stay indexed.
