Hi Newish to all this my website was ranking real well on google and others but the update dropped miles back was wondering if anyone knows where i can get a site to check my backlinks for good links and bad links Thank so much
It would really help if you could show us the site in question. There could be a hundred reasons for disappearing from search and the quality of links coming in is one of the last things we would check. It's more plausibly something wrong with the on-site content, in my experience. Do you have enough content on your site? Is it all original? Was it a new site that gained a lot of traffic quickly? It's not unusual to see a large amount of traffic from Google when you first start out, and then see it settle down to put your site in a more natural position in the results. It seems that this might be what happened.
I think you can post it here, with a space before the . or something. I think it's only linking out that's frowned upon and may be prevented.
Thanks. I hope you don't mind, but I'll give a general critique and make suggestions overall? 1. The images are appearing incorrectly for me. They are not the right size and are appearing "squashed". I would ascertain the correct size dimensions of the scrolling image window and re-size them to appear correctly. 2. I see this on the top of the "Costumes for Hire" category - "Our Costumes Costume Hire Hire Rent a Mascot Costume For your Childs Birthday Party, Charity Event, Fete,Business Promo, Weddings Call us" Google will call that spammy. That doesn't read at all as natural text should. 3. The "Dora" Costume page has "Hire/Rent a Mascot/Costume For your Childs Birthday Party, Charity Event, Fete,Business Promo, Weddings and More" as a description. Again, this will come across as meaningless and spammy to Google. 4. One of the biggest problems I can see is that you have created so many categories for cities obviously hoping that someone will type in "Costume Hire London" and you'll appear. It really doesn't work like that and having all those categories listing cities will do you considerable harm. I would delete all the categories, then create new ones with titles like "Superhero Costumes" and "Cartoon Character Costumes". These are the keywords you would be targeting. The fact that you're in the UK would be a given, the locations would be provided in the checkout process or on another page. Google would do all of this for you, without you needing to state it in such an obvious way. The on-page content certainly needs work. This is something we do every day at Sales Copy Solutions. It's our bread and butter. I would say that you need to make these pages more compelling with interesting, natural text. For example, the Dora costume page would be written as follows by one of our team - Title - "Dora The Explorer Costume" Short desc - "Beloved children's cartoon character Dora the Explorer is a favorite with little girls and boys who have a sense of adventure and a thirst for learning. Make that special celebration, birthday party or charity event one to remember for all the kids with this highly detailed and fun Dora the Explorer costume!" Full desc - "Why not make that special occasion, birthday party or charity event come to life with our high-quality and highly-detailed Dora the Explorer costume? Loved by both boys and girls with a sense of adventure, Dora takes them on exciting journeys discovering the world around her, helping them learn every step of the way. Made from comfortable and easy to wear materials, you'll have everything you need to create the perfect character, delivered to your door spotlessly clean and ready to wear out of the box. Why not create your own little adventure to entertain and educate the kids too? Become Dora for a day and give the kids a truly memorable experience to live with them for a lifetime." Then go on to list the technical aspects of the costume, size, weight, link to terms of rental etc... I would also recommend creating additional pages suggesting party games and tips on how to get into character and stay in character too. Create articles giving advice on holding fancy dress parties, how to encourage everyone to take part, how to have competitions for the best costume and so on... Create a space for people to send in and share their own pictures of them wearing your costumes and the experience they had. These are the kinds of things people who rent costumes would be looking for, and having your products and services backed up visibly by customers is an excellent selling method. I would definitely suggest creating pages (on a blog installed on a sub-directory, for instance) targeting the people who would use costumes, not just the people actively looking right now to rent one. Once you have an audience of the people who actually rent them, making money from that audience should be far easier. You can use that blog to keep them engaged and interested, encouraging them to sign up to a newsletter, then using that at special times throughout the year to encourage them to hold parties. Halloween is an obvious choice. Imagine if you have a newsletter with 500 people by October next year, and then wrote a piece about the best Halloween costume parties and sent out the link in a newsletter to those 500 people... how many of them would then decide to have a party themselves, and would then be renting costumes directly from you? I would also suggest that you search for venues where charity and private events are held, send them some information, and perhaps give them an opportunity of a discount. There are a lot of companies and venues across the UK who hold children's parties and may be interested to have you approach them rather than them having to go looking when something is needed. I hope that helps a little
