Google Drop my rank if I migrate content from home page

I have a well ranking website for my primary keyword, from which I get the lions share of my traffic.

I would like to migrate this content to an internal page, and make the home page more magazine like.

My main keyword is part of my domain name - something which I am convinced got me ranking well early in the first place - along with good content.

So, if I move the content from this page to an internal page, I am concerned I will loose ranking for that keyword as I assume the new page would need to be indexed then ranked, while the old home page (with new content) will eventually not rank as well for those keywords - unless of course I maintain a similar keyword density - HEY? Did I just answer my own question?

    Thoughts?

    Of course.

I have a website with my main keyword in the domain name - searchenginemarketing.com

If I rank very well for the keywords search engine marketing on the home page, and I change the content - moving it to a new page eg. searchenginemarkeing.com/directions - I assume I will loose ranking for the home page when that content is gone. I want to make the home page a listing of current articles, rather than the static content that has been on there since I launched the site.

But, of course, I don't want to loose the traffic that my root (/) is giving me.

If the new page (with the original content from the home page) ends up ranking as well that would be fine, but I don't know if that will happen, so I hesitate to change my home page.

I am not sure if that makes it clear or not?

Make sure that the keyword density of your keywords you are targeting will stay the same or higher on the new homepage. If you do that there should be no problem with your rankings.

I think you should write the new content with same keyword density and other related keywords and you will be fine. Also search engines like new and unique content, so it won't hurt you.

Have one page per keyword, leave your primary keyword content on your home page. Google loves a lot of content. If theres more text its more likely visitors will find what they are looking for.
