If Google doesn't filter the search, will Chinese government block Google? I don't think so, it's very hard for them too, they will get too much pressure from every part of the society. Actually they did it many times and unblocked soon. Every policy was made by human after all, blocking Google brought lots of inconvenience to them and their families and friends too. Even the old emperors weren't able to do anything they want, not to mention a government in the 21st century.

    The Impact of Google filter:
    1. To Google: no much difference, they already have a well-known Chinese version and people used it for several years. The only differences I can see are a new domain and a filtered version.

    2. To the Chinese government: they don't have to hack Google search any more, talented Google engineers will do that for them. Also, it's very easy to explain the filtered results when they have to: that's what Google delivered, don't blame us.

    3. To the Chinese people: They get a more strictly filtered version directly from Google. Proxy, VPN? Forget about it.

Google should get some benefits by doing this for the Chinese government. Google's move is ONLY for money, IMO.

Read your first post, then your last post.

Of course like 99.5% of companies, they are fueled by MONEY!
Nothing google has done, is doing, or will do, is actually FREE!
They want money, they will do what it takes to get money, the more they do to get more money, the more they will want more money.
They are like msn, abc, gm, ibm, coca cola, etc in the business of making money!
    At all costs!
You think the gmail and so forth so cool to be free?
Think again my friend...these cool free things from google are not free...
Someone, some company, is paying for them!
See the ads, you send a gmail to someone, they see ads.
    Not free if ad supported.

I may be in a minority, but if google can so damn easily cave in to the ccp, they should just cave in to ours.

    All this is MHO

I suggest you find the definition of 'Free'. Google.com is free, it doesn't cost me anything as a user to use it. I said Gmail was free because it was, Hotmail isn't (if I want a decent amount of space) because I would have to pay Microsoft to use their services directly. If something is ad supported, it's still free... if someone gives me a tshirt which has their logo on it, it's free even though it's ad supported.
By your logic, you're saying that DigitalPoint isn't free.

I never said Google shouldn't make money, I said they have an aim of providing accurate information to everyone, and they're not doing that.

Filtering news is no big deal, the Chinese version of Google news is more like a press release aggregation of the Chinese government (CG), no one uses it anyway.

But filtering search results is totally different, here is an example:
There are 1000 results for "democratic": (faked)

    Results 1 - 10 of about 1,000 for democratic
    1. What's democratic...Some countries such as China and North Korea are not democratic countries...
    2. Bush Administration urges China to improve their democratic system...
    3. The democracy in China got worse...
    ....
    901. China is a democratic country...
    902. China has the best democracy in the world...
    ...

CG doesn't want the visitors to see these results, they block this search and visitors get nothing, everyone knows what's going on.

    After the filter:

    Results 1 - 10 of about 100 for democratic
    1. China is a democratic country...
    2. China has the best democracy in the world...
    3. US broke the human rights again...

You get the picture. Clearly, Google is using its great reputation to help CG cheat the people. If this is not evil, please tell me what is evil, and what can be more evil than this.

Why do so many people on this forum turn every thread into a Bush bashing thread? All I hear is people slating him... if you don't like him, impeach him or whatever, you're not doing much good by posting stuff like that.

Another interesting article, seems to also notice how ironic Googles motto is, and how they've now changed their entire company image by moving into China - the first mistake Google have made.

Can you really explain why you hate Google's moves in China and why it is a mistake

Do you work the forums as a propagandist for Bill Gates

"Google does not censor results for any search term. The order and content of our results are completely automated; we do not manipulate our search results by hand. So what man, Crack addicts like to smoke crack too!

But they can't do it in certain places because they will get arrested and thrown in jail.

Get it through your head that Google can not provide unfiltered results in China because it is AGAINST THE LAW!

It is ironic that you want Bush to censor the results in the states for some odd reason going against the US Constitution, get it together OK!

So you believe that Google will be blocked if it doesn't filter the search. Got any proofs?

As far as I know, Google wasn't blocked even they provided uncensored search for years.

I don't have to live in China to know it.

You always change the topic and avoid my questions. It's a complete waste of time to discuss this way.
