Google doesn't like automated inquiries ?

I found the below information on the google website as a guideline for things not to do.

    10. Automated Inquiries
Google doesn't appreciate robots writing your content, and they're even less appreciative of robots checking your ranking. Automated Google queries and automated link submission are both against Google's terms of service, and both of them can get your site banned. They tie up computing resources for everyone.

Is this true if so, should I stop using some of the software to check my rankings.

What stops me from doing automatic queries of YOUR site ? Just kidding, but hope you understand what I mean.

Do you use any special software when hogging google ?

I have never used any software to check my ranks or similiar things. Dont need to. I think you should check your ranks ones in a while but the natural way by searching google. Spend more time working on your website.

Yes but if you a few dozen pages it can be a pain in the neck. That is true so, what you say though who is to stop someone else from using software for their competitors sites. There is no way that google would penalize you for doing that then, otherwise i could do it all day long on my competitors site.:D

the other thing is if you check them manually then you have to go through all the trouble of pressing {ctrl} {shift} {p} each time to get accurate results.

I asked an author of a search engine tool about this, and his reply was that as long as you press the button to execute, it's not considered "automatic." If you were to set up a timed job to execute a script to search google every hour, that would be considered automated searching.

It made sense to me at the time, but I'd be interested if anyone could confirm or deny this.
